HARBOR LITES

By Nina Mule

The fun never seems to stop in Fair Harbor... thanks to all who received my new column with such warm and gracious comments... I appreciate all the wonderful feedback.

Well cloudy, rainy skies gave way to windy sunshine on Saturday for FairHarbor's annual BBQ on the Plaza... It was a great afternoon as over 200 residents and friends alike turned out for this annual event, (was it the 3rd or 4th annual? no one could remember) The event has numerous sponsors, thanks to all who participated.

Anyway, munching on hot dogs and hamburgers were Wells and Gail Newell, as well as the entire family of Bob Kerr... who's baby Bob was kissed by this columnist's favorite daughter, Heather Mc Donald... wonder where all those shirts came from, what a great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Making a grand entrance was Cora Reynolds... in the arms of her dad, Brendon... Kim, who's a bit bleary eyed, is the proud mom.

Aside from the entertainment provided by the many volunteers who flipped burgers and hotdogs, and shucked enough corn (laid end to end, would stretch back to NYC)--Frick and Frack were there, as well as Neal --there was music and singing... again Elm creeps in...  Russ was there, but where was Ellen...probably home with their newest family member...

Our BBQ capped a very lovely weekend, where Fair Harbor held their annual Rosh Hoshanah service at the Old Firehouse on Thursday morning.... As usual, Dr. Sam Mann officiated as Belinda Tarter sang... it was a moving and inspirational way to begin the
New Year.  Afterward, the Elm gang gathered at the Rich house for their annual dinner... served on time!!! with a special guest from Seattle, Oregon, welcome to Anita's cousin Richard.

I have to answer the burning question of who the "blonde bombshell on Elm" was, who was seen sharing a cocktail with Carl.. it was none other than my 82 year old Aunt Pauline from Hoboken, New Jersey!!!  As usual, Carl was his charming self and made my aunt feel like a kid again, thanks Carl!!

Who was seen installing a new bathroom in his house???  Seems the house that Jaffe (that's Bob) built is never quite finished, thanks for the pointers for my renovation.

And while I'm on the subject of Jaffes, DJ, brother on Holly, is writing his memoirs of his and Rose's round the world trip and shopping for a publisher... If you are an interested publisher, you can contact Mr. Jaffe via this webzine.

As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, we in Fair Harbor, have always enjoyed this bonus season... It may not be summer, but the sky is clear, the sun is good and the ocean, well the ocean is always the star of this show in my book.

More to come... as we look forward to finally closing up after the summer of 2007.
