ANGIE FERRAR’S MEMORIAL – OCTOBER ‘08

ANGIE AND HANK

JOEY FERRAR

‘Thank you all for coming and celebrating her life”

It was an ANGIE day, remarkably mild for October, the sky as blue as her brilliant eyes, the turquoise water her favorite color, glistening under the bright sun as her sparkly jewelry did.

8AM that day Joey took his mother “for the ride he always promised her, turned the motor back to 80MPH, very slow, just as she liked it drank a farewell mimosa with her (I drank both)…she could never be limited by time or space. But someone immortal who continues among us in her new grounds, free and eternal”

It was a jovial crowd keeping in spirit with Angie who hated anything sappy. She was a surfcaster, a boater, racing across the Bay in her speedboat, raced cars, a fabulous cook.

They all came – friends and family. Joey out did himself in the lavish reception complete with a young female (!) pastor hired for the occasion

She asked for Angie stories so here’s one:

When I moved into m oceanfront house (before it went into the ocean) I noticed a lone surfcaster at 7AM facing the ocean. I love men, so I watched for several mornings– broad shoulders in a gray sweatshirt over black trunks covering a tight behind and tanned well muscled legs. Now that person never entered or left the beach by my house so, after several prolonged “viewings” I found myself quite attracted and had to figure out how to make the acquaintance. When I could contain myself no longer I actually brewed a cup of coffee, toddled all the way to the shore line and said to this strong back “thought you might enjoy this” upon which Angie, startled, turned towards me and I, equally startled, controlled my shock and smiled

We became friend after that and I never told her.

When she realized that this city dweller hadn’t a clue about the vicissitudes of the ocean and its peril she would invite me over to parties and terrorize me with a device which measured high tides and winds which she rigged to the delight of her friends and forecast

that my house was in very real danger, One day when I was outing up my seventh row of dune fencing she boomed out “its not going to do any good! When the ocean wants the house it will take it. I’ve seen chunks of sidewalk bobbing up and down like bottle corks” Of Course she was right. My house did go into the ocean despite rows of snow fence and beach grass.

Testimonials:

Angie would ice skate across the bay pulling her brother Joe on a sled. They were the scandal of their block in summer running around in their underwear because bathing suits were too expensive.

The called her Zsa Zsa, a clammer with a boat.

She performed in the water ballet at Jones Beach when she was only 15.

It was suggested that Angie be on the same memorial bench in Kismet as Hank with an ashtray and a drink holder.

SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY

Joey released her ashes into the water she loved “They’re bio-degradable” followed by a blizzard of pink petals
