Cherry Grove’s Art Show 2009 – Talent Rampant

(Concerned Women of the Grove’s (CWOG) 14th Annual Breast Cancer Fund Raiser -  Another Success …see below)

 By Sherri Rase

“You Oughta Be In Pictures” was the theme for this year’s Art Show, the annual outing for artists from Cherry Grove and beyond.  Many media were represented from pottery to petit point to photographs and more. 19 artists contributed: Andrew Resto, Marilyn Jaeckel, Wlwanor Eick, Cathy Eckdahl, Lu Strain, Lynnn Schumacher (yes, there are 3 "n"'s), Patrick Fratellone, Noreen Pillitteri, Larry Crawford, Tom Starace, Jeff Greenberg, Louis Nelson John Mansueto Lorraine Michels,  Michael Fitzgerald, David Blaustein, Circe Hamilton, Warren Boyd Wexler

 Here’s a sample:

Pouring champagne for the Member’s Reception are Event co-Chair Frank and Board Member Donald – handsome devils, no?

CeeJay and Event co-Chair Michael keep track of sales on behalf of the artists.

Anita, Sharon and Carl – oh my!

Artist Cathy Eckdahl features with a small sample of her work.

Dennis McConkey exhibits his most recent in his Beach Paintings series.

Tom Starace and Jeff Greenberg share art and life.

Queen Urban ably displays her art as well – who is that on her head-dress?  And is she one of the lost Housewives of Long Island?

A closer look at Queen Urban’s tiara reveals why “She’s Hearing Voices” – her tableau includes Queens Margo, Coco and Lola with partner James as well as Urban herself and partner Jack.  Wowza – she’s got it all!

Louis Nelson’s painting of “Storm Brewing” took the President’s Award and Circe Hamilton won the Queen’s Choice for her nude self portrait taken on-island near the Sunken Forest.  Always an event to remember, the Art Show will be back next year.

Concerned Women of the Grove’s (CWOG) 14th Annual Breast Cancer Fund Raiser -  Another Success

 By Sherri Rase

Saturday, August 1 dawned clear and blue and with as little humidity as a late summer day could hope to achieve.  Diane Romano and Patricia Goff were the gracious hosts of the Concerned Women of the Grove’s (CWOG) 14th Annual Breast Cancer Fund Raiser.

Food, beer, wine and water flowed and good will abounded as the fund raiser drew habitués and supporters from New York State and beyond.

Follow the pink ribbons to find the treasure (of friends).

Warm greeters at the entrance!

Experienced volunteers like CeeJay Rosen at the Silent Auction…

Beautiful art abounded in the Silent Auction, donated by local artists and artisans.

welcomed us to their home, Heaven ‘n’ Earth, for an afternoon of merriment, sober reflection and gala remembrance.

Gilda’s Club CEO Lily Safani discusses services provided to support cancer victims and their loved ones.

Dr. Allen Meek of Stonybrook University discusses recent technology updates in treatment.

Silent Auction finds include wine, collectibles, jewelry, fine art and photographs, restaurants, and theatre and concert experiences.

Donna Pirhana performs with….

Empress Demi Tasse

The incomparable Bella...

…while Homecoming Queen Urban Sprawl shares a personal story on how breast cancer affects everyone.

It takes an army of volunteers to make this amazing event happen…we couldn’t get them all in the picture!

Until there’s a cure, there will be the Concerned Women of the Grove – helping to fund research and celebrate life.  Be sure to say hello and thank you next time you’re in the Grove!
