Ocean Bay Park Gourmet Fair Does It Again!

The Ocean Bay Park Gourmet Fair, held this year on Saturday, August 18th has been a major feature of summer activities for more than twenty-five years. It is an event supported by the community as a whole, but attracts folks island-wide. Moreover, gifts to the Fair come from everywhere, and reflect the wide networks of our inhabitants. A hallmark of the event is the lunch offered by sale. This year's bill-of-fare featured Alan's chili, and hot dogs and hamburgers done to a turn on the grill. Because of the fickle weather, long eating tables were set up in he OBP firehouse truck room instead of on the bay deck.

The Fair's offerings are divided into 'department':things for sale such as sweaters and jewelry;colorful filled baskets featuring themes such as cocktails preparation or grilling;acres of silent auction items with designer jewelry, theatre or sports tickets or dreamy vacation spots or services such as gardening;50/50 raffle;prize raffle which featured a 47" TV; children's department which features face painting and cupcakes for which the children choose a topping such as chocolate chips or sprinkles;a wine table. Alan Schankweiler, and Cami Meyer chaired this event, and were assisted by many who worked behind tables from 12-3 PM. The chairs reported that $23,000 was raised and this money is directed to support the projects not-funded by tax dollars.
