Kentucky Derby Chapeaux in Kismet

My Worlds Collide!
Is it me or is Memorial Day weekend a week early??? I am still in the Theater world enjoying a spectacular climax after the most extraordinary season in its history. I have seen a show a night since mid March and only just finished my committed play going this past Thursday as a voting member of the Drama League, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle.

And now reaping the reward of my efforts at a whirlwind of Awards Galas: Drama League last week, Outer Critics Circle yesterday, Drama Desk and Theater World next week, Tonys on the horizon.

Thus distracted I offer you a preview of our great first issue in the works: The President´s somewhat coerced but nevertheless forthcoming endorsement of Same Sex marriage. The Pines failure to reconstruct the area of the Pavilion after its devastating post season fire still finds the property barren despite emphatic promises it would all be up and ready by Memorial Day weekend. Ocean Beach banned their tradition Pub Crawl, the Fire Island Ferries attempt to add a surcharge to our fares.

I welcome our newest advertiser:

Grand Opening - The Only Ocean Front Restaurant in Cherry Grove
Sand Castle on the Ocean
Restaurant and Bar
106 Lewis Walk, Cherry Grove, Fire Island

Also covered will be the Grove Arts Project annual In Town Party

and Fair Harbor Bob Jaffe´s Back To The Beach in town party,

a new play by Fair Harbor playwright Ron Scott Stevens
Cherry Grove Arts Project has a grand new President, Martha (someone get her a drag name!) and a new theme “Around the World” and I am proud to be a co-producer of the Marriage Play which will be performed this summer along with the ever popular Oceanaires, wonderful Doctors Fund show and more The Palace, off and running, will host a series of extravaganzas including PAWS benefit June2nd.

FIPAP will greet the heat with beautiful bare bodies at Whyte Hall June 2

And Kismet enters laughing

Let the games begin!!!

Jeannie Lieberman, Publisher

from the editor:

It has been my great pleasure and, in fact, the inspiration for creating Fire Island Sun.com, when I was no longer writing for the papers, to enhance print coverage of the many events, which was/is sparse and almost devoid of pictures so necessary to re-create their excitement  and to bring the joy of recollection to all of you.
I have done this all myself with only occasional and much appreciated input from such collaborators as Martha and Sherri.and Bradlee. But, as I cover other communities also, I had to miss  some events despite Herculean a efforts.
And all this was out of pocket, not by intention, but by the fact that I cannot attend and create content AND sell advertising simultaneously So I am asking those who are creative for any contributors to help cover the many events that make up our many and varied communities. AND am shamelessly soliciting ads either directly or from those to sell some with a healthy commission.
I can no longer do it all alone
So, for the life of Fire Island Sun, now in its 10th year - please help.

Love & Kisses to all
and thanks for the memories
