KISMET ANNUAL FIRE DEPARTMENT PASTA NIGHT
THE COOKING TEAM: Lou Gary & Dawn
Photos and text by Jeannie
It was a social event as well as epicurean, so much fun that
someone at the KCA meeting next morning asked if we could have more of these!!!
The truck area was transformed into an Italian restaurant, complete with
checkered table clothes, flowers and candles on each table plus Andre Boccelli
singing in the background. But the customers were a having such a good time drinking,
noshing on appetizers of cheese and fruit, beautifully presented and
socializing Gary worried “no one wants to eat”.
Of course they did eventually “swirl & gorge” as Tony Manzo
put it: on penne pasta with meatballs and sausage, marinara sauce or traditional
special tomato sauce (spiked by Gregg Weisser’s hot spices), optional ricotta
topping, salad, bread and dessert, including some outrageous ruggalah and
coffee/tea. Tony Manzo said the sauce is so smooth it’s like a beverage”.
Over a hundred were served. Patti & Lou Romanzi were the
organizers and in charge of the event with major help from the KFD as a
whole. The real core of the work was done by Gary & Dawn who worked the entire
day before cooking with drop ins offering advice and help. In addition to Gary
& Dawn special mention should be made to Lauren Leone, Lauren Dennis,
Sharon Sitone, Jim Sugrue, Krysia McBride, The Chiros, Rudy, John Altieri,
Mike Fiore, Tom Licari, Chief Dom, and the McKeehans.
Joan McKeehan states: profits are not huge for this event if you
count it in money terms alone ($980). As always it was a bonding experience for
the department and seemingly for the whole town. Cooking and Set Up were full
of energy and clean up afterwards quickly made it a firehouse again and had the
meeting room ready for the KCA meeting the next morning.
AND IN THEY CAME…….
